A Shout out to all!

Tue Sep 29, 2009, 10:36 AM
I've been thinking and I thought it was time to do a sincere "thank you!" to all the Watchers and to everyone who has stopped by for a quick visit. I am very grateful for all the comments and critiques, every little bit helps me see the mistakes I make and help so i don't make the same mistake twice and helps me become a better artist. Thank you all for enjoying my art also. It is something I, to be perfectly honest about, have been scare to show others and outside a limited few that I work with or am friends with, no one has ever seen. It took until last year for both my foreman and a fellow worker to push me to go back to school and to be proud of my work. I slowly grew in confidence and by chance ran into Ryan Stegman at a local comic shop where he was signing the Hercules book he just drew. Ryan is one of the nicest artist I have ever met and he was kind enough to both critique my work and turn me to this site. So to steal a line from my son that I feel sums up my art and how I feel about everything (this is his reaction to being placed as a lineman and not at one of the so called "skilled" positions in his football team) "I don't care if I never get the ball, I just want to play the game." Sometimes it is amazing how insightful a eleven year old can be. But, that is exactly how I feel right now, I would love to get the ball but if I never do, I'm alright with playing the game and having at least a few enjoy the time with me. So Thank You! You are always welcome back to play the game with me.

I know I've ranted a bit but I also wanted to plug a little bit about how excited I am about this secret poster I'm currently doing, I'm getting ready for Halloween already so keep an eye out for it.

What cons are you planning to hit in 2010? And are you working on any projects?
:iconchadfeldpausch:
I'm doing research but still unsure which cons would be good for me. As far as projects, nothing other than doing art for this, I'm keeping an eye out for projects at digital webbing but not much yet. I've been asked to do a zombie mob for a friend of a friend of a friend...etc, lol. After I do this Halloween Monster one I've got to finish this pin-up of gwdill's character Bluejaye. I have a few thumbs done for other pins like; Chun Li, Illyana Rasputin, She-Ra, Felicia from Darkstalkers, some Guilty Gear characters and a handful of others. I know you have a couple cons planned, what projects have you got in the works?
:iconfrankreynoso:
Is it cool if we move our conversation to email? You can hit me up at frank@frankreynoso.com.

Then I can tell ya about what I'm working on.
:iconfrankreynoso:
You got some skills there, Chad. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on you.
:iconchadfeldpausch:
Thank You, I'm really just starting out, I just hope to improve and keep going. Thanks a lot for viewing and the compliment, I really appreciate it!
:iconfrankreynoso:
It's my pleasure, Chad. I'm also getting started in comics. (You can see some of my stuff at frankreynoso.com and [link].)

Have you showed your stuff to publishers and editors yet? Also, I'd love to see more of your ink work. The Mystique piece is really cool.

If you're ever in need of a writer, drop me a line.

I've shown my work to a few publishers when I went to the Chicago Con, I had some good responses. Jim Valentino gave some really good advice and said I'm really close and would be drawing soon. After talking to some of the artists in the alley they told me to get a table and show my work that way. So, that's where I am now, I'm getting prints around to take around and hopefully I can make it to a lot of conventions next year. I'm going to be laid off from work for almost the whole month of December and possibly some of January, so I figured that will give me some good quality time to catch up on inking and coloring this stuff plus draw out the sketches I have planned. Once I'm finished with a few of them I plan on doing some sequential pages to send out again.

I actually checked out your site the other day when I first talked to you. I really like your style it is very flowing. I feel sometimes my work is to forced and stiff, so when I looked at yours I just thought it was much looser and livelier.
:iconfrankreynoso:
I'm not surprised by Valentino's reply. I told my gf the same thing when I spoke with her about you. It's really cool to see someone at their nascent stages and watch them grow.

I'm sorry to hear that you're going to be laid off. As a person who relies on his day job to survive, I sympathize. But I'm glad to hear that you're taking the opportunity to do your thing. If you want, we're having a con here in NYC next month: The Big Apple Comic Con. Lots of pros come by here.

Thanks for the compliments on the comics. I still have a ways to go with my stuff. But yeah, I try to keep it lively and energetic. One of the ways I do that is to use my entire arm to draw at first, holding the pencil far from the point. This keeps everything loose and organic. As the drawing nears completion, I get closer to the point until I end up drawing the fine details with the pencil point right between my finger tips. Also, I try to ink really fast to get some of that vivacity that can get lost when penciling a lot, which happens to me often. (I learned this from an interview with Mike Mignola and from studying the works of some awesome comics creators.)

Sorry, for rambling. I can go on and on about this. Heh heh heh.
